tardiscrash:

I never really understood how people could get stuck on one companion until Amy Pond. I like most of them, really love quite a few and was very sad when some left but when I think of a modern companion I feel like I’ll always think of Amy.
Her character was just so real to me and well draw without having things laid out with a lot of dull family drama. She was so angry and broken when we first see her as a young woman and we see her become an adult. Grow and change suffer and become stronger.
I love her because she was a messed up kid who everyone thought was crazy but the Doctor helped her become a grown up who was strong and reliable and really believed in herself and her love and her ability to be that with out her raggedy Doctor. I feel like a lot of us turn to fandom when we are feeling messed up and like the world is against us and we can find things in stories that help us grow even when those stories get put back on the shelf. She was a perfect metaphor for what Doctor Who means to a lot of us and for that she will always hold a special place.
